1989-2009:  20 Years of Technology Innovation

  • 1989 - South Dakota Network is incorporated
  • 1992 - Began providing Centralized Equal Access Services (CEAS)
  • 1994 - First owner-membership expansion
  • 1996 - Statewide transport network deployed
  • 1997 - Statewide frame relay network deployed
  • 1998 - Statewide SONET network deployed
  • 1999 - Statewide ATM network deployed
  • 1999 - Second owner-membership expansion
  • 2000 - South Dakota Network adopts business name of SDN Communications
  • 2000- Turned up route to Omaha
  • 2001 - Deployed DWDM network in South Dakota
  • 2002 - Deployed Digital TV network in South Dakota
  • 2003 - Deployed Metro Ethernet Ring in Sioux Falls
  • 2005 - Deployed MultiProtocol Label Switching technology, which acts as a translator among all data technologies
  • 2005 - Opened Network Surveillance Center
  • 2008 - State awards REED project construction to SDN
  • 2009 - SDN Communications celebrates 20 years since incorporation (1989-2009)
  • 2009 - SDN is among 1% of companies awarded a $20 million stimulus grant to help complete connections for anchor institutions in South Dakota
