SDN EXPANDS NETWORK REACH TO MINNEAPOLIS, OMAHA, FARGO, CASPER
POSTED: OCT 20, 2008
In a major build out over the last year, SDN Communications has created a fiber optic network expansion giving local businesses new, affordable routes for the transfer of electronic data or shared Internet usage.
SDN, a Sioux Falls based business owned by 18 of South Dakota's telephone companies, has new fiber routes that will reach the most significant cities in the upper Midwest:
- Minneapolis, Minn.
- Omaha, Neb.
- Casper, Wyo.
- Fargo, N.D.
"These are all fast-growing, business-friendly cities that needed direct connections because South Dakota shares many of the same retailers, banks and other professional offices with those cities," says SDN Chief Executive Officer Mark Shlanta. "We're excited to offer affordable connections to those communities to foster business and community growth."
SDN partnered with North Dakota's Dakota Carrier Network (DCN) to connect to Fargo and is working with Wyoming's Advanced Communications Technology (ACT) for a first quarter 2009 connection to Casper.
The expansion is especially significant for the western portion of the region. No other company has provided connectivity between South Dakota and Wyoming. All data traffic has had to take a longer, more expensive path through Denver.
The expansion is the first phase of SDN having a larger regional presence. Future expansions will include routes to Denver, Colo.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Dickinson, N.D.
