Workers Improvise to Get Cable Across James River

Posted on Thursday, August 04, 2011 in General Blog Posts, Connectivity, Miscellaneous

This summer being as wet as it has, getting cable in the ground has been a challenge for our cabling crew.  A crew at the James River in Huron had to improvise to get the job done.  The task was to get a new cable across the James River, with the standard equipment only reaching 20 feet deep; crew members had to improvise with a Jet Ski to track the bore head.  One member of the team runs the bore machine while the other tracks where the head is to make sure it is going in the correct direction and depth.  High currents made things difficult to not only locate the head but also to direct the operator at the same time while on a Jet Ski.  The cable was laid 20 feet below the James River to be sure that it will not be damaged by water.
