SDN’s Broadband Boost to Hwy 14 Hits Close to Home

It’s easy to get lost in the technology in delivering broadband services, but it’s the human element that makes it a worthwhile, rewarding career. That’s been reinforced with me recently.

Just before Christmas, SDN turned up high-speed broadband services to the schools along Highway 14 between Huron and Brookings. Students and staff in Iroquois, De Smet, Lake Preston, Arlington and Volga have long been starved for faster service. They’ve been receiving their services via old, copper phone lines. SDN’s fiber delivers the service up to five times faster – 10 Megabits per second.

What’s that mean? No longer do those students have to wait for video to load, only to have it stall and buffer; No longer do they have to wait 20 seconds for websites to come up; No longer do laptops go unused because the broadband pipeline isn’t big enough to support that many students doing work online.

This SDN turn-up is especially rewarding for me because I’m Arlington native. Unfortunately my graduation from AHS was before the digital age (1986!), but it makes me proud to know the school that got me ready for life is now getting superior service from the company for which I work.

KDLT-TV did a nice story Friday demonstrating the human element of this technology. I’m proud that SDN’s service puts Arlington and all the other Highway 14 schools on the right side of the digital divide. Take a look.

Another school made the news because of their new high-speed Internet connection. Volga schools now enjoy the must faster broadband speeds as well.
